Serie A halts for two weeks for the international break. When it resumes, Milan are in action on 20 November on the road to Fiorentina. Inter play at San Siro in their next match against Napoli on 21 November.

The first Milan derby of the Serie A season ends in a 1-1 draw between Milan and Inter at San Siro. Hakan Calhanoglu fired Inter ahead from the penalty spot after he was brought down by Franck Kessie. Milan responded as Stefan de Vrij turned Sander Tonali’s free-kick past Samir Handanovic. The Nerazzurri then spurned the opportunity to regain the lead when Lautaro Martinez saw his strike saved by Cirprian Tatarusanu. Both teams missed a host of good chances in the second half, with Alexis Saelemaekers coming the closest when he was denied by the post in the dying minutes. However, neither side could force a winner and were forced to share the spoils.

90′ + 3′ Calhanoglu launches a drive into the box with power as he attempts to pick out a team-mate. However, Ibrahimovic rises highest to clear the danger for the Rossoneri.

46′ We’re back under way at San Siro.

P. Kalulu

F. Ballo

46′ Kalulu enters the action for Ballo-Toure at the break. Pioli withdraws the full-back after his yellow card.

It was an eventful first half at San Siro and Inter will be kicking themselves about not being ahead. They’ve been the better side and have preyed on mistakes from the Rossoneri. Stefano Pioli will be annoyed with how open his team have been at the back and will be demanding an improvement to maintain their unbeaten start to the Serie A campaign.

It’s all square at the break in the Milan derby. Inter took the lead from the penalty spot as former Milan midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu was fouled by Franck Kessie. The Turk took the spot-kick himself and scored, but the Rossoneri responded when Stefan de Vrij headed into his own net from a free-kick. Inter were handed a second penalty after Fode Ballo-Toure fouled Matteo Darmian, but Laturo Martinez saw his effort saved by Ciprian Tatarusanu.

41′ Ballo-Toure cuts a pass inside for Ibrahimovic, but the Swede loses out to Skriniar before Krunic fouls Barella to ease the pressure on the Inter defence.

39′ There is a nervous energy around San Siro. Both teams are playing with a lack of composure and it seems the side that makes the fewest mistakes will emerge with the win.

37′ SAVE! Krunic brings the ball forward and offloads to Leao in space. The forward cuts inside to shoot on his right foot, but sees his effort saved by Handanovic. The rebound falls back to Leao, only for him to blast his second strike over the bar.

36′ Diaz tries to make another a charge through the Inter defence, but he goes down under pressure from Bastoni. The referee tells the forward to get to his feet.

33′ Tonali whips the resulting free-kick into the box from the right flank, but Kjaer and Ibrahimovic are unable to get there ahead of Bastoni.

31′ Diaz goes on the charge down the right flank and gets edged out Perisic. However, Milan press and regain possession through Tonali, who is felled by Calhanoglu.

29′ Milan have a reprieve from Martinez, but their defending has to improve after a sloppy start. Pioli will not be impressed.

Lautaro Martínez

Penalty Miss

27′ MISS! Inter change penalty takers as Martinez replaces Calhanoglu over the ball. The move does not work as Martinez fires a tame strike towards the bottom-left corner that is saved by the dive of Tatarusanu.

C. Tătărușanu

Penalty Save

27′ SAVE! Tatarusanu keeps the scores level with a fine stop to deny Martinez. On this occasion, Tatarusanu waits for the kick and guesses the right way to get down low to his right to palm it away.

20′ Martinez collects in space and tries to blast an effort through a crowd of defenders, but his effort is repelled by Kjaer.

S. de Vrij

Own Goal

17′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!! DE VRIJ HEADS INTO HIS OWN NET!!!! Milan respond through an own goal as De Vrij is powerless to divert the ball into his own net. Tonali puts his free-kick on the money from the left flank with a precise right-footed cross. Tomori rises, and his leap puts De Vrij off his header as the Dutchman diverts his attempt past Handanovic into the bottom-left corner.

16′ Barella brings down Kessie on the left flank, handing Milan a free-kick in a useful position.

16′ Leao charges forward through the middle of the Inter midfield and launches a strike at goal that Handanovic gets down low to save.

15′ Tatarusanu makes a gamble at the back to race off his line to attempt to beat Martinez to a ball over the top. He fails to reach it and Martinez nips it round him. However, the offside flag goes up late to spare the Milan keeper’s blushes.

14′ Leao takes possession on the edge of the box and curls a strike towards goal, but he sends a tame effort at Handanovic.

H. Çalhanoğlu

Penalty Goal

11′ GOALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!! CALHANOGLU FIRES INTER AHEAD!!!!! 1-0!!!!! The Turk holds his composure from 12 yards, drilling his effort down the middle of the goal. Tatarusanu dives to his left and can only watch as the ball hits the back of the net.

10′ VAR confirms the penalty. Calhanoglu will attempt to dispatch the spot kick against his former club.

8′ PENALTY TO INTER! Kessie intercepts a pass from Dzeko, but then makes the bizarre decision to turn back towards his own box. Pressure from Calhanoglu forces him into a mistake and he clips the ankles of his former team-mate. The referee does not hesitate in pointing to the spot.

5′ Inter break down the left flank through Perisic and he tries to send a low cross into the box for Martinez, but Tomori is alert to clear the danger.

3′ Krunic collects on the edge of the box and tries to force a pass through the Inter defence for Ibrahimovic, but it deflects off Skriniar and out for a goal-kick.

1′ We’re under way at San Siro.

Milan have lost their last three Serie A derbies at home; only once in their Serie A history have they lost more successive such matches – each of the first five in the competition between 1929 and 1934.

Inter have made two changes to their side that beat Sheriff in the Champions League last time out. Calhanoglu is called into the side in the middle of the park to replace Vidal against his former club. Perisic also returns to the fold on the left flank in place of Dimarco.

Milan have made five changes to their side from their draw against Porto during the week. Ibrahimovic returns to spearhead the attack in place of Giroud, who drops to the bench. Saelemaekers also makes way for Krunic. Kessie is restored to the midfield in place of Bennacer, while Kjaer and Ballo-Toure start in place of Alessio Romagnoli and Theo Hernandez.

INTER SUBS: Denzel Dumfries, Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Matias Vecino, Aleksandar Kolarov, Stefano Sensi, Andrea Ranocchia, Joaquin Correa, Arturo Vidal, Federico Dimarco, Danilo D’Ambrosio, Ionut Radu.

INTER (3-5-2): Samir Handanovic; Milan Skriniar, Stefan de Vrij, Alessandro Bastoni; Matteo Darmian, Nicolo Barella, Marcelo Brozovic, Hakan Calhanoglu, Ivan Perisic; Eden Dzeko, Lautaro Martinez.

MILAN SUBS: Ismael Bennacer, Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic, Andrea Conti, Pierre Kalulu Kyatengwa, Alessandro Florenzi, Daniel Maldini, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Matteo Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers, Pietro Pellegri, Antonio Mirante.

MILAN (4-2-3-1): Ciprian Tatarusanu; Davide Calabria, Simon Kjaer, Fikayo Tomori, Fode Ballo-Toure; Sandro Tonali, Franck Kessie; Rade Krunic, Brahim Diaz, Rafael Leao; Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Inter need a positive result this evening to keep pace with their rivals and Napoli at the top of the table. Simone Inzaghi’s men are unbeaten in their last three matches, but are seven points off the pace of the Rossoneri. The Nerazzurri have won their last three games on the bounce, including a 3-1 triumph over Sheriff during the week in the Champions League. They will need to be flawless tonight against Milan.

The first Milan derby has taken on greater significance than recent years given the return of both teams to prominence in the title race. Milan have enjoyed an outstanding start to the campaign, winning 10 of their 11 matches and drawing the other. Stefano Pioli’s men are second entering the contest after Napoli only managed a draw against Verona earlier today. There is a huge opportunity for the Rossoneri to move back to the summit and earn the city bragging rights.

Good evening and welcome to the live commentary of the Serie A clash between Milan and Inter at San Siro.
